The 3D Printed Bridge by Concrefy with the MiniPrinter PRO

At Constructions-3D, we are passionate about the advancements transforming the construction industry. In collaboration with our partner Concrefy, we have been part of an innovative project: the creation of a fully 3D printed pedestrian bridge. This project perfectly illustrates the convergence between technological innovation and practical engineering, demonstrating the exceptional capabilities of our MiniPrinter PRO in the construction sector.

Introducing Concrefy

Concrefy, our long-standing partner, is a leader in construction materials technology. As a member of Umdasch Group Ventures, this company brings over four decades of expertise in concrete technology, offering innovative solutions that meet the contemporary challenges of the industry. Their expertise encompasses everything from material testing in their state-of-the-art laboratories to consulting on material selection, as well as digitizing information flows and optimizing construction processes.

The Bridge Project

The pedestrian bridge marks a significant milestone in the use of concrete 3D printing. Constructed with the MiniPrinter PRO from Constructions-3D, this structure is post-tensioned, featuring 28 distinct printed voussoirs. The two abutments were cast using traditional methods, but the rest of the structure is entirely hollow, reducing the amount of material needed while maintaining structural integrity.

This unconventional approach allowed for the creation of complex geometries that would be extremely costly or impossible to achieve with traditional methods. Each voussoir, being unique, showcases the flexibility of 3D printing in producing customized shapes, opening new avenues in architectural design.

Why Use the MiniPrinter PRO?

The MiniPrinter PRO has proven to be the ideal tool for this type of construction. Not only does it facilitate the creation of complex shapes at a reduced cost, but it also accelerates the construction process, making the realization of innovative projects faster and economically viable. Its ability to print directly on-site also reduces the logistical costs associated with transporting large prefabricated elements.

Advantages of Concrete 3D Printing

Using concrete 3D printing for such structures offers several advantages. Firstly, it allows for greater design freedom, with the ability to produce shapes that challenge traditional methods. Secondly, it optimizes material use, which is essential for sustainable development. Thirdly, the construction process becomes faster, safer, and less costly, while significantly reducing the carbon footprint of construction.

Influence on the Design Process

Concrete 3D printing profoundly influences the design process, particularly in terms of creativity and technical limitations. It opens up nearly limitless possibilities for architects and engineers, allowing them to explore innovative designs that were previously inaccessible. Traditional technical limitations are pushed back, enabling freer exploration of complex forms and innovative structures.

At Constructions-3D, we are proud to be part of these cutting-edge projects that not only push the boundaries of what is possible in construction but also set the stage for future innovations in our industry.
