The ADEME visits Citadelle des Savoir-Faire

Can you briefly describe ADEME and your role within it?


ADEME's main mission is to succeed in ecological and energy transition.

At ADEME, we are firmly committed to combating climate change and resource degradation. In the field, we mobilize citizens, economic actors, and territories to empower them to make progress. Faced with urgency, we set ambitious goals and call for a general mobilization: we must act faster.

As the coordinator of the Research, Development, and Innovation department for the Hauts-de-France regional office, I coordinate research and innovation activities on ecological transition themes by initiating projects to address environmental, climate, and societal challenges.


How and why did you start supporting the Constructions-3D project?


Following a meeting with Antoine Motte from Constructions-3D in 2019 to learn about the 3D building printing project, I was impressed by the dynamism and creative spirit of Antoine's team on this innovative project that allowed us to envision buildings from a more sustainable and less environmentally impactful perspective. It fully met what we were looking for through our calls for future investment projects, namely disruptive innovations capable of drastically reducing environmental impacts compared to standard solutions, as well as creating economic wealth. For these multiple reasons, we initially supported it through the future investment device for the MaxiPrinter printer demonstrator, and then later through the FRATRI (Regional Fund for Amplification of the Third Industrial Revolution) to work on the incorporation of bio-based materials into 3D construction.


What was the purpose of your visit on December 12th with your team? What impressed you?


As part of the RDI (Research, Development, or Innovation Project) department, we organize visits to exchange ideas and visualize the innovations we have supported to familiarize the entire team. It is also an opportunity to identify showcases that we propose for various events on ecological transition and also for institutional visits.



What were your objectives or expectations in supporting Constructions-3D?


Our expectation was that all the objectives set within the framework of the innovation project would be achieved, and that this innovation could gradually move towards the industrialization phase to enter the market. We also have expectations regarding job creation through this innovation.

What do you think of the various innovations in the field of construction carried out at the Citadelle des Savoir-Faire? Whether in terms of construction and insulation?


The various innovations fully meet our expectations. They will gradually change construction techniques and economic models for construction companies to meet the need for resilience in the face of the climate challenge.


How are Constructions-3D's projects at the heart of ADEME's concerns?


The Constructions-3D project, beyond disruptive innovation through 3D printing, aligns with a logic of proximity and autonomy in territories. The MaxiPrinter is designed to be mobile and use local materials for building in a given territory. This particularity gives this innovation a lot of flexibility in terms of use and adaptation to the varied situations of territories, not to mention the speed at which the machine is capable of printing a building. This type of innovation is necessary to lead a responsible ecological and energy transition.
